Brimbank Park Community Playscape
Brimbank Park Community Playscape is a special place for children to play, learn and grow in nature. This exciting nature playscape for children and families opened in Brimbank Park, in Melbourne’s north-west, on 11 February 2014.
The unique design is inspired by the natural and cultural heritage of the park, welcoming people of all abilities.
We know that contact with nature is great for kids. Nature encourages children to use their imagination, and imaginary play helps children develop social, cognitive and creative skills. The playscape will encourage children to be active and to understand and improve their physical abilities. All of these skills are essential building blocks for life.
The playscape will be a perfect spot for families to play, socialise and learn in nature. It has been designed in collaboration with children of all abilities, and incorporates references to the area’s indigenous connections.
Brimbank is a treasured place in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs, a vast expanse of parkland where local families can come together to enjoy the outdoors. Located in the City of Brimbank, which has a culturally diverse community, the area is a perfect space for a playscape within a community with a number of health and wellbeing challenges.
The People and Parks Foundation were proud partners with Parks Victoria on this special project. Funding sources included contributions from Variety Victoria – the Children’s Charity, the Department of Sustainability and Environment&rsrsquo;s Vision for Werribee Plains grants program and the J T Reid Trust. Total funding reached over $1 million. A nationally acclaimed team comprised ACLA Consultants and Ric McConaghy Pty Ltd who were appointed to prepare the designs.
Special thanks to Parks Victoria for the great photos from the opening!
