Active in Parks: Senior Week Guided Walks

Being a Senior certainly doesn’t mean you have to hang up the walking shoes, in fact we know that this is a stage of life when people have more opportunity and time to ‘smell the gum leaves’. During Senior’s Week in the Geelong region, many of our senior walkers enjoy stepping out and learning about the flora and fauna along the banks of the Barwon River and a well-deserved coffee at the Barwon Edge Boathouse Cafe.

Led by People and Parks Foundation and Parks Victoria, these senior groups enjoyed exploring new parks and making new friends. Many participants reported they had fun learning about the local flora and fauna and were keen to come back to explore other sections of the park.

*While Active in Parks may no longer be running, we have developed a new program, Live Nature Wise. Live Nature Wise takes all of the best bits from the award-winning Active in Parks program (physical activity in a nature-based setting for better health and wellbeing outcomes), and builds on this to create campaign and program that acknowledges the multitude of health, environmental and economic benefits that spending time in nature provides to all.
