Active in Parks takes home the gong!

People and Parks Foundation is celebrating another coup for our award-winning program Active in Parks. The program has been recognised for its contribution to the community, winning the Victorian Government’s 2015 Community Sport and Recreation Awards for Outdoor Active Recreation Initiative! We were so proud to be among an outstanding group of finalists, and taking home the award on the night was just the icing on the cake! Thanks goes to all of our supporters, partners and to the wider community for recognising the benefits they can enjoy through Active in Parks. Special thanks to Medibank Community Fund for their financial support in the development of our dual award-winning website, and to Parks Victoria, Greater Shepparton City Council, Starwin Management and New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Service for being our amazing local champions for the program across Australia. If you’re not on the list, feel free to get in touch and find out how you can get Active in Parks!

People and Parks Foundation connects people to parks and outdoor spaces for health and wellbeing. Active in Parks has been developed as a directory, toolkit and suite of programs to enable community to take a leading role in helping all Australians get outside and get active. Through the program, we want to promote the intrinsic benefits of exercise in a nature-based setting. So instead of fronting up at the gym and running your km’s on the treadmill – take your running outside onto the beach, or along a trail in a national park. Instead of yoga in the studio, what about yoga in the park?

Of course, Active in Parks is about more than connecting individuals to outdoor activities, events and programs. The program empowers communities to develop sustainable, cost-effective outdoor living programs in an effort to meet a variety of health and wellbeing needs. Active in Parks also represents a suite of easily replicable programs for local government, community health organisations and any other interested parties to kick-start their own healthy living campaigns.

In fact, People and Parks Foundation’s Active in Parks is constantly evolving to better meet community needs. So while we are always thrilled to be commended for our work towards improved community health and wellbeing, we also know that the best is yet to come!
